Breakfast/lunch

For great sandwiches and breakfast go to the Broodbar.
Website

Another place for nice sandwiches is Betty Blue.
Website

Caldi e feddi (near dam square) has 101 different sandwiches for a good price!

Get to Los Nino’s on the Noordermarkt on Saturdays for true original Italian Lunch

Dutch snacks

Get some apple pie at Café Winkel. Best apple pie with a fleemarket (only there on monday morning)

(Food) markets

There are 2 great biological food markets on saturday (best for your cheese shopping) on the nieuwmarkt square and the noordermarkt square (famous apple pie at Cafe Winkel here as well)

There is a big food market on the Albert Cuyp every day except sunday.

Bars

W lounge on top floor W hotel: billionaire hotspot with fireplaces.

For more alternative places you can go to Pllek. Cool street art around this area.

Wynand Fokkink is a dutch distillery. You can do gin tasting here.

Poolbar is also a very nice spot.

Nightlife

Go to the areas of Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein, I prefer the former. Paradiso is a beautiful old venue at Leidseplein for concerts as well as dancing.

A great Berlin-style EDM venue is de School (usually only on weekends, so check what’s on).
Website

Other good clubs for electronic music are RADION, Shelter, or club Clare.
For hip-hop and r&b go to Encore – at Melkweg (every Saturday) or go to club Air.

For more alternative places go to Pacific or Skatecafe, always check what’s on though.
Website Pacific Parc
Website Skatecafe

The (legendary) gay areas can be found around the Reguliersdwarsstraat and the Zeedijk.

Shopping

For nice boutique shops go to the 9 streets or the Haarlemmerstraat in the Jordaan area.

For the expensive big brand fashion shops go to the Pieter Cornelis hooft straat between the Vondelpark and the museum square.

Another high-class place to shop is Bijenkorf.

All the ‘standard’ shops (like H&M or Nike/Adidas) can be found at the Kalverstraat and the Nieuwendijk

Museums

Some nice alternative museums are Stedelijk museum (modern art) and Eye (cinema and video art, its a movie theater as well, with a bar with a wonderful view of Amsterdam).

Also, have a peak inside Tuchinski, the oldest movie theater in Amsterdam build in an Art Deco style with a crazy interior.

With kids? Nemo. Fun Do it yourself museum about technology.

Parks/Areas

IJ Hallen: biggest fleemarket of Europe once every month on both Saturday and Sunday. Check website for dates. 5€ entrance. Or 9€ (early bird access) from six a.m. till 9 a m.
Winter: Amsterdam Light festival cruise.( Untill 20 January). Or walk or bike the Keizersgracht all the way.
Tip:
Get the free magazine UIT Krant in the Albert Heijn Supermarkt behind the Dam Palace. For all the fun festivals, street food, live music, and musicals. Amsterdam is the number one most cultural city according to Insider.com so check it out for your entertainment.
